Abstract

Objective: To demonstrate, through the analysis of questionnaires, the satisfaction of women with their breasts, and that breastfeeding is not the direct cause of women’s dissatisfaction with their breasts, considering that displeasure with breasts is usually associated with the act of breastfeeding. Methods: To interview women who meet the inclusion criteria and have signed the informed consent. A qualitative questionnaire with a scale of satisfaction with breasts and demographic data was used. Results: 3,481 women between 18 and 50 years of age were interviewed. Of those, 2,359 (67.80%) were satisfied and 1,122 (32.23%) were dissatisfied. The populational proportion of women pleased with their breast after breastfeeding is between 65.88 and 69.01%, with a 95% confidence interval (α=0.05) and average population ratio of 67.44%, with estimated error ratio of 0.0157. Conclusion: there is no significant difference between the act of breastfeeding and dissatisfaction with breasts, women’s dissatisfaction with their breasts is also felt by women who did not breastfeed, and most women who breastfed (67.4%) are satisfied with their breasts.
